Losing weight and getting healthier has never been an issue for me; maintaining it, well, that’s a whole different story.

There’s a natural high to seeing a continuous drop on the weight scale, and it’s a nice feeling to know that every morning, you just might look better than the day before. It’s motivational. It’s encouraging. And it feels like your scale is daily high-fiving you.

But when those milestones stop, so do the constant feelings of success, making it very easy to get off track. I read once that 80% of people who lose at least 10% of their body weight will eventually regain it all back and even become larger than they were before the diet. I know that all too well, starting from my teenager years.

This was in the back of my mind when I decided to try Upshoot’s 10-day plant-based nutrition program, called Reboot. Raw truth: I knew fruits and veggies were good for me, but until that point, I never thought they’d be ‘good’ for me in terms of my day-to-day. I mean, my car still had the faint delicious aroma of the In-N-Out Double-Double I happily devoured the night before.

Like basically all of us, however, I knew I was supposed to eat at least five servings of fruits and veggies every day. And I was probably pulling in about one serving a day, maybe two. I’m just assuming it was a full serving; I mean, does anybody really know what a vegetable serving actually is? A celery stick? A celery stalk?

I signed up for the Reboot and immediately fell in love with their Phytopúr products and the fact that I could also have veggie-based meals and snacks. The 10-day plan blessing my system with a plethora of fruits and veggies was super simple and convenient to follow. Literally, I was either just shaking or mixing on-the-go throughout the day, and experimenting with creative flavors and fresh fruit/veggie add-ins. I didn’t have to worry about prepping, cooking, juicing, or the quantity of servings—the packaging told me exactly how many there were.

Ten days later, I felt like a champ. The cravings for burgers and sodas were gone. My body felt clean. I lost five pounds. I no longer felt like a hypocrite nagging my kids to eat their veggies. And, I had fun consuming delicious Shakes, Smoothies, Super Drinks, and Soups all day long.

But throughout it all, I still had that nagging fear in the back of my mind. There was no way I could do a full 365 days of Reboot… so what do I do after Day 10? Re-plug up my system with crap? Regain the weight? Eat a bag of carrots and grapes each day and hope for the best?

It’s then when I learned about Upshoot’s Lifestyle program, which is a plant-powered program that helps maintain the results from the Reboot while customizing it to one’s lifestyle. It was about daily adding plant-based goodness without having to stress about it or give up some of my favorite foods. It gave me hope.

I easily transitioned to two Phytopúr products a day, blissful about the fact I’d still be getting at least five serving of fruits and vegetables every day while still having the freedom to eat how I wanted outside of those products. Sometimes I’d start my day with a Phytopúr Smoothie (two servings of 11 unique fruits and veggies) and then relax in the evening with a bowl of hot Phytopúr Soup (three fruit/veggie servings and only 80 calories!). It really was that simple. And, I found myself making healthier food choices throughout the day!

Fast forward a month into the Lifestyle program, and I’m still reaping the benefits. I feel amazing, and I’ve kept the weight off. In fact, I’ve lost three more pounds without even trying.

What surprised me the most about all this, though, was not the simplicity, affordability or convenience of adopting a plant-powered lifestyle. It was the awareness that my entire attitude towards nutrition had changed. For me now, getting your 5-a-day fruits and veggies isn’t a ‘have-to’ but instead a ‘get-to.’

I get to drink phytonutrients. I get to just add water or almond milk, mix and enjoy. I get to switch it up by adding fun ingredients like honey, lemon or cinnamon. I get to teach in front of my class while sipping my Phytopúr Super Drink packed with Spinach, Celery, Kale, Organic Spirulina, and Chlorella—and actually love the taste.

Vegging Up after a busy day of teaching

And… I get to tell my happy story of how just adding a bit more of plant-powered nutrition to my lifestyle has resulted in a lot more of health and happiness to my life.
